Drawing Blood de/by Molly Crabapple

“When the world watched me hardest, when my brain burned itself bloody, I could draw. No matter what, I had that. It was all I needed.”
In language that is fresh, bracing, and deeply moving and illustrations that are rich, irreverent, and gorgeous Molly Crabapple's Drawing Blood is a memoir that will change the way you think about art, sex, politics, and survival in our times.

Among the pivotal moments in her career as an artist, one of the most widely known is her creation of Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School. Read the book to learn the inside story on the inception and evolution of our beloved Sketchy's right from it's co-founder.

“Posing one night at the Society of Illustrators, I grew frustrated that my name wasn’t even on the flyer advertising the event. Many artists there told me I was their favorite person to draw, but on the flyer I was merely an anonymous “female model”—a gender and a body, interchangeable with any other. That interchangeability gnawed away at me whenever I posed. Long ago, models like Kiki de Montparnasse had been queens of their art scenes. But my model friends and I might as well have been flanks of beef. As I posed with glazed eyes and aching feet, I started imagining how things might be different.”
